Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain natural gas pipeline systems under PHMSA CFR 49 Parts 191 & 192.
  • Pass tests to become Operator Qualified.
  • Patrolling natural gas pipelines and performing leak surveys.
  • Inspect, test, and rebuild pressure regulators and valves.
  • Operate odorization equipment and glycol bath heaters.
  • Record keeping of all testing and patrols.
  • Locate utilities and purge/commission new systems.

Job description

POSITION TITLE: Natural Gas Pipeline Technician

LOCATION: Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky is preferred)

Our client is a natural gas pipeline services company that is seeking a Pipeline Technician. The company provides project development, operation/ maintenance, and regulatory compliance services for natural gas pipelines. The company is experiencing significant growth and is seeking a qualified technician to service a number of different pipeline systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Operate and maintain natural gas pipeline systems in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) under CFR 49 Parts 191 & 192.
  • Ability to immediately pass tests to become Operator Qualified in performing many tasks on natural gas pipelines.
  • Must pass drug test and be subject to random testing.
  • Patrolling natural gas pipelines.
  • Performing leak surveys using a Heath DPIR unit.
  • Inspect, test, and rebuild pressure regulators (pilot operated).
  • Operate, refill, and small repairs to odorization equipment.
  • Operate and maintain glycol bath heaters used to heat natural gas.
  • Inspect and maintain pipeline valves.
  • Test cathodic protection systems and identify atmospheric corrosion issues.
  • Record keeping of all testing and patrols.
  • Utility line locates with pipeline location equipment.
  • Purge and pack/commission new systems.
  • Routine maintenance to grounds of pressure reducing/meter stations.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3 years of field experience operating natural gas pipeline facilities and equipment.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance and repairs on pressure regulators, valves, compressors, and bath heaters —- components of natural gas pipeline systems.
  • Knowledge of PHMSA pipeline safety regulations and procedures for gathering, distribution, and transmission lines.
  • Experience with the design and construction of natural gas pipeline systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel.
