Job summary

MISTRAS Group, Inc. in Houston is seeking a Shop Technician to support the maintenance, rebuilding, and testing of inline inspection tools. You will follow mechanical and electrical schematics, perform preventive maintenance, and document refurbishment activities.

The role requires a high school diploma, 2+ years of electromechanical experience, and a valid driver’s license. Strong organization, safety adherence, and basic computer skills are essential as you assist field technicians and help

Qualifications

• High school diploma is required.
• Post-secondary diploma in Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Electrical Technology is highly preferred.
• 2+ years of hands-on technical or electromechanical experience.
• Valid Class C Driver's License with a clean driving record.
• Passport is an asset and may be required for cross-border travel.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude, tool-handling skills, and familiarity with electronics/soldering.
• Strong computer skills with Windows and proprietary software.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly in a shop environment.
• Forklift experience is a strong asset.
• Highly organized, self-regulated, and pride in quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Build, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on pipeline inspection tools and support equipment.
• Follow detailed mechanical and electrical blueprint diagrams and complete build checklists.
• Conduct troubleshooting, basic diagnostics, and functional testing on tool systems.
• Document refurbishment and maintenance activities in digital logs, tracking parts used and work performed.
• Ensure tool readiness and assist with loading equipment for field deployment.
• Support field technicians by preparing backup equipment and components.
• Deliver or collect parts locally within the Houston area as required.
• Maintain a clean, organized, hazard-free workspace and store tools/parts properly.
• Participate in daily/weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks.
• Identify and report equipment issues, hazards, or near-misses to the Operations Manager.
• Safely handle shop chemicals and materials while adhering to PPE requirements.
