Job summary

MEB General Contractors is seeking a Pipefitter / Pipelayer to support heavy civil and industrial construction across the Mid-Atlantic. You will lay out, fabricate, install and maintain piping systems and assist with process equipment installation.

Candidates should have 2–4+ years of piping experience, familiarity with underground utilities, and a strong safety mindset. Must be able to work in teams, perform manual labor, and travel as project needs.

Qualifications

  • 2–4+ years of verifiable experience with piping systems in industrial/heavy civil construction.
  • Experience with underground utilities preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, grades and installation details.
  • Experience in water/wastewater plants, shipyards, or similar facilities is a plus.
  • Strong safety awareness and ability to work in a crew.

Responsibilities

  • Select pipe type, size and materials from drawings and specs.
  • Lay out piping systems and plan installation sequences.
  • Cut, thread, fuse, bend and assemble pipe with hand/power tools.
  • Assemble and install various piping systems (steel, copper, PVC, etc.).
  • Secure piping to structures and support with brackets and hangers.
  • Test, flush and chlorinate piping as required.
  • Assist with installation of industrial process equipment.
  • Perform minor welding as qualified; maintain tools and site.
  • Assist underground utilities installation and backfill when needed.
  • Follow safety procedures and coordinate with foreman.

Job description

MEB is seeking a skilled Pipefitter / Pipelayer to support heavy civil and industrial construction projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This role involves the layout, fabrication, installation, and maintenance of aboveground and underground piping systems, as well as support with industrial process equipment.

Safety, quality, and coordination with other trades are critical. Craftworkers are expected to follow all safety requirements, work efficiently as part of a crew, and perform manual labor as required to support project needs.

Core Responsibilities
  • Select pipe type, size, and materials according to drawings and job specifications.
  • Lay out piping systems and plan installation sequences to avoid obstructions and conflicts with other trades.
  • Cut, thread, fuse, bend, and assemble pipe using appropriate hand and power tools.
  • Assemble and install metal and non-metal piping systems, including but not limited to: Steel, stainless steel, ductile iron, copper, brass, FRP, PVC, HDPE, and concrete pipe.
  • Secure piping to structures using clamps, brackets, hangers, and supports.
  • Test, flush, and chlorinate piping systems as required.
  • Assist with installation of industrial process equipment such as pumps, valves, gates, screens, and similar components.
  • Perform minor welding tasks as required (where qualified).
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Assist with the installation of underground utilities and piping systems.
  • Prepare grades and bedding for installation of pipe, duct banks, and structures.
  • Cut, prepare, assemble, and place pipe systems of various materials.
  • Assist with backfilling, compaction, and site cleanup.
  • Perform manual labor including lifting, carrying, shoveling, and raking materials as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures and direction from the foreman or leadman.
  • Support other crafts and tasks as needed to maintain workflow.
Required Experience & Skills
  • 2–4+ years of verifiable experience working with piping systems in industrial and/or heavy civil construction (more experience preferred).
  • Experience with underground utility installation strongly preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, grades, and installation details.
  • Familiarity with working in industrial environments such as water/wastewater treatment plants, shipyards, or similar facilities.
  • Strong awareness of jobsite safety, including trench safety and working around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work productively as part of a crew and communicate clearly with supervision and coworkers.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor in support of the crew.
Safety & Physical Requirements
  • Commitment to working safely in accordance with company, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform physical labor including lifting over 50 lbs., working at heights, working in confined spaces, and working outdoors in all weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to work 8–10 hour shifts and extended hours as project schedules require.
  • May be required to demonstrate craft competency through written and/or performance-based testing administered by a third party.
Employment Requirements
  • Minimum 18 years of age.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • U.S. citizenship and the ability to pass a background check may be required for government projects.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the jobsite.
  • Willingness to travel based on project needs.
