Job summary

Austin Industrial in Bay City, TX is seeking a Pipefitter Journeyman to lay out, assemble, install and maintain pipe systems, supports and related equipment for industrial processing. The role requires 3–5 years journeyman experience, ability to read specs, stand and work in confined spaces, and a valid driver's license.

• Experience: 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.
• Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, confined spaces, PPE use, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing up to 200 ft.

Responsibilities

• Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications using saws, torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
• Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
• Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
• Select pipe sizes and related materials according to specifications.
• Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems and equipment using hand and power tools.
• Install automatic controls used to regulate pipe systems.
• Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections.
• Remove and replace worn components.
• Inspect work sites for obstructions and ensure holes do not compromise structural integrity.
• Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded areas.
• Dip nonferrous piping materials in molten tin/lead coating to prevent erosion.
• Other duties as assigned.

This person will be able to lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems. Other duties may be assigned.

• Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment, following specifications and using hand and power tools.
• Install automatic controls used to regulate pipe systems.
• Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
• Remove and replace worn components.
• Inspect work sites for obstructions and to ensure that holes will not cause structural weakness.
• Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded manholes, basements, or facility floors.
• Dip nonferrous piping materials in a mixture of molten tin and lead to obtain a coating that prevents erosion or galvanic and electrolytic action.

Qualifications Required for this Position:

Experience: - 3-5 years of Journeyman level experience.

Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, couching, kneeling, working in confined spaces, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs, pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs, climbing up to 200ft, perceiving color differences, ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted), and strenuous physical activity.

Qualifications Required for this Position:

Experience - Previous janitorial or custodial experience in the industrial industry. Ability to lift to 50 lbs. and work on foot for extended periods. Knowledge of safe chemical handling and cleaning procedures. Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
