Job summary

Mdmechanical is seeking a Mechanical Contractor Pipefitter Helper to assist in installing, maintaining, and repairing piping systems in large commercial and industrial settings. You will work with pipefitters and welders to ensure water, waste, and gas lines operate safely and efficiently within buildings.

Responsibilities include reading blueprints, measuring and cutting, minor piping installation, and collaboration with other tradespeople on site.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Adheres to instructions from Pipefitter on blueprints and drawings to retrieve parts for a project.
• Measurement and cutting of plumbing systems with supervision.
• Perform minor assembly and installation of piping systems according to provided instructions.
• Clean job site by sweeping, picking up debris and scrap material.
• Follow safety regulations and use of PPE.
• Collaborate with other tradespeople on project site.
• Install minor piping systems with supervision from copper, PVC, cast iron, carbon steel screw pipe and stainless steel.
• Join and seal sections of pipes using soldering and swaging techniques with supervision.
• Install, set up and calibrate pumps, boilers, and heaters with supervision.
• Install minor water purification and treatment systems with supervision.
• Install gas lines and related systems with supervision.
• Flush and clean systems after installation to remove debris.
• Conduct pressure tests with supervision of piping and gas.
• Recognize appropriate materials with supervision.

A Mechanical Contractor Pipefitter Helper is skilled in the installation, maintenance, and repair of Piping systems in large-scale commercial and industrial settings. These professionals work with pipefitter and welders to ensure that all piping systems, including water supply, waste disposal, and gas lines, function efficiently and safely within a building or complex. Their basic knowledge covers a range of sophisticated piping systems from basic water supply networks to complex HVAC using copper, PVC, cast iron, carbon steel/screw pipe and stainless steel.

FUNCATIONAL DUTIES & REQUIREMENTS:

• Adheres to instructions from Pipefitter on blueprints and drawings to retrieve the parts necessary for a project.
• Measurement & Cutting: Measuring, cutting, joining, threading, and preparation of plumbing systems with supervision.
• Installation: Performs minor assembly and installation of piping systems according to provided instructions.
• Maintenance: Clean job site by sweeping, picking up debris and scrap material.
• Equipment Operation: Follows instructions to operation of process and handling equipment.
• Safety: Adhering to safety regulations and standards, and appropriate use of PPE.
• Collaboration: Working alongside other tradespeople on project site.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES:

• Requirements: Understand technical specifications including codes and regulations with supervision.
• Piping & Valve Systems: Install minor piping systems with supervision from copper, PVC, cast iron, carbon steel screw pipe and stainless steel.
• Soldering: Join and seal sections of pipes using soldering and swaging techniques with supervision.
• Equipment Calibration: Install, set up and calibrate specialized equipment like pumps, boilers, and heaters with supervision.
• Water Treatment Systems: Install minor water purification and treatment systems with supervision.
• Gas Systems: Install gas lines and related systems with supervision.
• System Flush: Cleaning and flushing the system after installation to remove any debris or contaminants with supervision.
• Pressure Tests: Conduct pressure tests with supervision of piping and gas.
• Material Selection: Recognize appropriate materials with supervision.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

• Minimum of high school education or GED equivalent, or trade school
• Required to read and write English, follow verbal instructions, and use simple math
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

• Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways
• Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately Shop or outside climate; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc., potential exposure to chemical substances.
