Job summary

MasTec Industrial seeks a helper to assist journeyman in planning, layout, installation, testing and repair of construction systems and components. You will read plans, measure with common tools, and support pipe fitting and valve installation on industrial sites.

This role requires 2–3 years of related experience, a HS diploma or GED, and a commitment to safety. Position offers competitive pay, benefits, and opportunities to advance within MasTec Industrial.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret measuring tools to perform task accurately.
  • Fully Understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Be able to perform tasks including, but not limited to; thread, bevel, and cut pipe.
  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to fit and install pipe and related components.
  • Assist in installing valves, couplings and fittings; disassemble damaged pipe as needed.
  • Produce quality work meeting plans and industry standards.
  • Communicate with Foreman regarding problems, materials, or hazards.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Assistjourneyman in the planning, lay‑out, installation, testing andrepairall types of construction related systems and componentsin accordance withall applicable plans, specifications,codesand industry standards.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Read and interpret measuring tools suchas,tape measure, speed square, framing square etc.in order toperform task accurately.
  • Fully Understand Plant North and drawing coordinates.
  • Be able to perform tasksincluding, butnot limitedto;thread, bevel, and cut pipe.
  • Useappropriate hand(i.e.wrap around) and power tools (i.e.grinders) to fit and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products; have working knowledge of all types of pipe and piping systems, including butt welded, socket welded, threaded, Victaulic, grooved,gluedand fused joints;
  • Assistin thefollowing;Install valves,couplingsand other fittings; disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipe, etc.
  • Produce quality work, meeting requirements of plans,specificationsand industry standards.
  • Closely interact with the installation crews for movement of materials and equipment.
  • Perform daily safety checks to ensure equipment is in safe operatingcondition.
  • Work in other crafts at levelsappropriate totraining and skills as requested by project supervision.
  • Must have the ability to take direction from a higher skilled worker orforeman.
  • Must have basic knowledge of the construction processes involved in heavy industrial construction.
  • Supportprojectwith other tasks as directed by supervision.
  • Communicate with Foremanregardingany problems arising, materialsrequired, or any hazards noted.
  • Ability to work different shifts and overtime asrequired.
  • Work under production schedule pressure.
  • Attain set standards of accuracy.
  • Be able to perform duties in a safe manner.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2-3years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • High School Diploma or GEDCertification(preferred)
  • Experience working in one or more construction craft roles as a helper or laborer, or a combination of work experience and training, and a basic knowledge of the craft assigned.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
  • When on-site, activelyparticipatein daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
  • Set a personal example of safe behavior.
  • Proficient in one or more craft areas
  • Ability to compute basics numbers, read scales and use simple fractions
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within timelines
  • Developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation or maintenance of construction components and systems testing of various systems withappropriate tools, and familiarity with any applicable state and federal codes. Must have allnecessary forlicensesrequiredfor theareathe work is to be performed, if applicable.
  • Ability to understand and follow directions. In addition, must have all necessary tools (see craft specific Helper Tool List)
  • Other may duties may be assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
  • May need tomaintainphysical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, andfrequentlylift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.
  • Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals.
  • Uncontrolled environmental conditions: Constant change in weather and site conditions.
  • This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasantodorsand/or loud noises.
