Job summary

Clark Construction is seeking a construction helper to support pipefitters on active sites in Virginia. The role involves assisting with pipe layout, assembly, and installation, and requires readiness to work outdoors with PPE and safety protocols.

You will be responsible for lifting, handling materials, and performing tasks that support the pipefitting crew under supervision, while adhering to Clark Construction's safety standards and procedures.

  • Assist pipe fitters in layout, assembly, and installation of piping for water systems.
  • Cut pipe and lift up to fitters.
  • Fit valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems.
  • Requisition tools, select pipe, transport materials to site.
  • Mount brackets and hangers to support pipes.
  • Excavate and lay pipe for water/sewer service.
  • Disassemble and remove damaged pipes.

Job description

Helps pipefitters by performing duties requiring less skill. Duties include using, supplying, or holding materials or tools, and cleaning work area and equipment.

Responsibilities:
  • Measures, cuts, threads and assembles new pipe, placing the assembled pipe in hangers or other supports.
  • Cut or drills holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipes.
  • Performs rough-ins, repairs and replaces fixtures and water heaters, and locates, repairs, or removes leaking or broken pipes.
  • Assists pipe fitters in the layout, assembly, and installation of piping for air, ammonia, gas, and water systems.
  • Cut pipe and lifts up to fitters.
  • Fits or assists in fitting valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems, using hand tools.
  • Requisitions tools and equipment, selects type and size of pipe, and collects and transports materials and equipment to work site.
  • Mounts brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes and sets sleeves or inserts to provide support for pipes.
  • Excavates and grades ditches and lays and joins pipe for water and sewer service.
  • Disassembles and removes damaged or worn pipe.

The Physical Demands of the Job:

This is a physically demanding role on an active construction site. You must be able to work safely around heavy equipment and construction traffic. You must be able to frequently lift, carry, and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds alone, and use team-lifting techniques for anything heavier. Long periods of continual standing or walking are required, along with the ability to bend, climb, kneel, and reach. Good balance and dexterity are crucial, as you will be working safely at various heights and in tight spaces. You'll need visual acuity to operate equipment and spot hazards, and the ability to hear with or without assistance to understand instructions in noisy environments.

Your Work Environment on the Site:

You'll regularly work outdoors and may be exposed to the elements-be it heat, cold, rain, snow, or wind. The work environment frequently involves exposure to moving mechanical equipment, high noise levels, dust, fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, and potential electrical hazards. Your safety is our number one priority, which is why you will be required to consistently wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and strictly follow Clark Construction's safety policies and procedures, and all applicable laws, at all locations.
