Job description

As a Pipefitter at Talent Source, you will be responsible for installing, assembling, and maintaining piping systems on marine vessels within the shipyard environment. Below are the key responsibilities and requirements for this position:

Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine piping requirements and layouts.
  • Measure, cut, and thread pipes to specified lengths and dimensions using cutting and threading tools, such as pipe cutters, saws, and threading machines.
  • Select and install pipe fittings, valves, and other components, ensuring proper alignment, sealing, and connection of piping systems.
  • Weld, braze, solder, or glue piping components together, following welding procedures and safety guidelines to create leak-free joints.
  • Assemble and install piping systems for various applications, including hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, water, and sewage systems, according to project requirements.
  • Test piping systems for leaks and pressure, using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing equipment, and leak detection methods, and make adjustments as necessary.
  • Perform maintenance and repair tasks on existing piping systems, including replacing damaged or worn components, and troubleshooting system issues.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries during pipefitting operations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and other tradespeople to support integrated shipyard operations and achieve project objectives.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience as a pipefitter or pipe welder in a shipyard or maritime environment.
  • Proficiency in pipefitting techniques and processes, including cutting, threading, welding, and brazing of pipes and fittings.
  • Knowledge of piping materials, standards, and codes, such as ABS, NAVSEA, and ASME B31.3.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality standards in pipefitting and installation processes.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials and work in various positions, including standing, kneeling, and bending.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Certification or training in pipefitting or welding preferred but not required.
