Job summary

Turner Industries is seeking Pipefitters to join our CapEx project team located in Old Ocean, TX. This role involves assembling and repairing boilers, tanks, and pressure vessels per blueprint specs, requiring attention to safety and quality.

Qualified candidates have four years of experience in pipefitting, can read drawings, and are able to work overtime and abide by client safety requirements. TWIC card and safety tests may be required. Turner Industries emphasizes safety and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level).
• Written pre-employment qualification test.
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
• Hazard Communication orientation/test.
• NCCER highly preferred, if not certified craft test required.
• OSHA approved corrective eyewear (Z87).
• Job site orientation.
• Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots).
• Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard).
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of such individual or others in the work place.

Responsibilities

• Assembles and disassembles boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, exchangers and heaters according to blueprint specifications.
• Locates and marks reference points for columns and plates on foundation; signals crane operator to lift parts to position; aligns structures.
• Bolts structures and sections; positions drums and headers into supports; aligns water tubes and connects and expands tube ends.
• Installs trays in process towers; installs manholes, valves, gauges and feedwater connections to complete assemblies.
• Assists in testing assembled vessels.

• 4-10's must be available to work overtime as needed, schedule subject to change

General Job Description:

Assembles and disassembles, erects and repairs boilers, tanks, vats, pressure vessels, exchangers and heaters according to blueprint specifications.

Functional Requirements:

Locates and marks reference points for columns and plates on foundation; attaches rigging or signals crane operator to lift parts to specified position; aligns structures or plate sections to assemble boiler frame, tanks or vats; hammers, flame-cuts, files or grinds irregular edges of sections or structural parts to facilitate fitting edges together; bolts structures and sections together; positions drums and headers into supports or bolts supports to frame; aligns water tubes and connects and expands tube ends to drums and headers; bolts casing sections, uptakes, stacks, baffles and such fabricated parts as chutes, air heaters, fan stands, feeding tube, catwalks, ladders, coal hoppers and safety hatch to frame; installs trays in process towers; installs manholes, valves, gauges and feedwater connection in drums to complete assembly of water tube boilers; assists in testing assembled vessels.

• Four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)

Tools/Equipment:

Employee may be required to provide the following: tool box, crescent wrenches, tape, spud wrenches, hammer, tri square, striker, burning goggles, tip cleaners, work gloves, framing square, level, torpedo level, center punch, channel locks, set of combination wrenches, pipe wrench, hacksaw, rain suit.

Physical Involvement:

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

Mental Involvement:

Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures and objects; picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawing or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked; following oral and/or written directions, plans and blueprints; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

• Location: industrial construction sites
• Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways; work performed at low and/or high elevations; work performed in confined areas

• Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately outdoor climate; may be exposed to extreme hot or cold weather, excessive humidity, rain, etc.; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc.; potential exposure to chemical substances
