Job summary

Emery Oleochemicals is seeking a maintenance technician to plan and install piping systems, inspect valves, and ensure safe operation at our Lexington, VA site. You will read blueprints and collaborate with multiple departments to meet project requirements and schedules.

The role requires oxy-acetylene torch experience, welding skills, and the ability to work overtime as needed. You will document actions, perform tests, and pursue ongoing learning to improve plant reliability.

Qualifications

• Must pass a written skills test.
• Must pass a respirator fit test.

Responsibilities

• Study blueprints, diagrams, specifications, and construction plans to plan work.
• Calculate, itemize, order, and gather requirements; coordinate schedules with affected departments.
• Install piping by measuring, cutting, bending, shaping, fabricating, threading, soldering, and gluing pipe using hand tools and equipment; insulates piping.
• Maintain piping by conducting operating tests, identifying, and repairing problems.
• Document actions by completing records.
• Maintain safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical professional publications.
• Accomplish maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Installs piping by measuring, cutting, bending, shaping, fabricating, threading, soldering, and gluing pipe using hand tools and equipment; insulates piping. Maintains piping by conducting operating tests, identifying, and repairing problems. Documents actions by completing records. Keeps tools and equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical professional publications. Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.

Skills/Qualifications

• Knowledge of piping systems including layouts, print reading, flanges, manways, gaskets, steam traps and tubing.
• Relief valves and general valve maintenance.
• Oxy-Act torch experience, relief valves and general valve maintenance.
• Special skill of pipe welding is a plus.
• General knowledge of pumps, compressors, agitators, bearings, and seals.
• Must be available to work over 8 hours/day and over 40 hours/week.

Note: Successful candidates must be able to pass a written skills test and pass respirator fit test.
