General Summary

Installs or repairs water, steam, gas, or other types of pipe and pipefitting. This position is located at the United States Naval Academy. Our mission is providing highly responsive and quality facility support to the midshipmen, staff, faculty, and sailors located in Annapolis at USNA and Naval Support Annapolis. Responsibilities
  1. Lay out work and measure to locate the position of pipe from drawings or written specifications.
  2. Cut various sizes of pipe to correct lengths using chisel and hammer, oxyacetylene torch, or pipe cutting machines.
  3. Thread pipe with stocks and dies.
  4. Bend pipe by hand-driven or power-driven machines.
  5. Assemble pipe with couplings and fasten pipe to hangers.
  6. Perform standard shop computations relating to pressures, flow, and pipe size requirements.
  7. Conduct standard tests to ensure finished pipes meet specifications.
Requirements
  • Journeyman Pipefitter certification required.
  • NICET Level II certification required.
  • Formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of facility operations and maintenance.
  • Experience with Facility Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software is highly desirable.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs., squat, bend, stoop, kneel, climb ladders, and stand for long periods.
  • Occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, chemicals, with minor safety hazards.
