Job summary

Job description

The Pipe Welder is responsible for the fabrication, installation, and welding of piping systems used for gas, water, drainage, and industrial process applications. This position performs high-quality welds on carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloys in accordance with applicable codes and specifications. Candidates must be capable of passing a 6G welding qualification test and performing pressure vessel and pipe welding to ASME standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Weld and fabricate piping systems for natural gas, water, drainage, and process piping applications.
• Perform pipe welding using GTAW (TIG), SMAW (Stick), FCAW, and GMAW (MIG) processes as required.
• Read and interpret blueprints, piping isometrics, shop drawings, and weld procedures.
• Fabricate, fit, and install pipe systems to project specifications and code requirements.
• Perform pressure vessel welding in accordance with ASME Section VIII and related welding procedures.
• Execute high-quality welds in multiple positions, including horizontal, vertical, overhead, and restricted-access locations.
• Inspect weld preparations, fit-up, and finished welds to ensure compliance with quality standards.
• Maintain welding equipment and ensure proper safety procedures are followed at all times.
• Work closely with project managers, foremen, inspectors, and other trades to complete projects safely and efficiently.
• Support hydrostatic testing, pressure testing, and system commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• Minimum ___ years of pipe welding experience in commercial, industrial, or heavy construction environments.
• Ability to successfully pass a 6G Pipe Welding Test.
• Experience welding carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials.
• Knowledge of ASME, AWS, and applicable piping codes and standards.
• Experience with pressure vessel fabrication and repair preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and welding symbols.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work overtime, travel, and perform field installation work as needed.

Preferred Certifications

• AWS Welding Certifications
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30
• NCCER Pipe Welding Certification
• Current 6G Pipe Welding Certification (preferred)

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, scaffolding, and in confined spaces.
• Ability to stand, kneel, bend, crouch, and work in various weather conditions.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including welding hood, respirator, and fall protection equipment.
