Job summary

Shapiro & Duncan, a third-generation family-owned contractor serving DC, Maryland and Virginia since 1976, is seeking a Welder for our Construction Department. The Welder reviews drawings, performs lay-out, and assembles pipes to production standards and safety requirements.

The role involves traveling to job sites in the greater Metropolitan Washington area. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of commercial welding experience and holds an ASME IX welding cert.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial construction and welding experience.
• Able to work Monday–Friday with occasional overtime; start times as early as 5:00 a.m.
• Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse team members.
• Interface professionally with co-workers, clients and subcontractors.
• Communicate effectively in English (spoken and written).
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied positions.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation to job sites.
• Able to withstand temperature extremes and exposure to dust/fumes.
• Welder Certification per ASME Section IX; certification required.

Responsibilities

• Work with Foreman and apprentices on all piping aspects.
• Use drawings and diagrams to complete tasks.
• Assist with Pre-Fabrication layout or installation.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable codes.
• Assist with rigging of material; rigging training required.
• Comply with OSHA, EM 385 regulations and safety program.
• Assist in maintaining welding equipment.
• Maintain and stock welding supplies; notify foreman when stock is low.
• Layout work ahead of welders and prepare piping/fittings.
• Work alongside welders to hold and position pipe/fittings.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by supervision.
