Job summary

Spitzer Industries in Houston, TX is seeking a Pipe Welder to join our shop crew. You will interpret drawings, measure and cut pipes, and perform MIG and Flux-Cored welding per procedures.

Candidates must pass 6G test, have 4+ years of pipe fitting experience, read a tape measure, and be able to work with overhead cranes. We offer overtime opportunities and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Must have 4+ years of pipe fitting experience and/or demonstrated ability per testing requirements.
• Proficient in basic math including whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
• Fluent in reading a tape measure (1/16” or smaller) and using analog/digital level.
• Able to calculate degrees and circumference using basic algebra and geometry.
• Must pass 6G test with MIG & FluxCore (1/16th wire).
• Conforms to shop quality practices and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Interpret drawings and specifications to define sequence of spools fabrication.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting to specifications, using saws, cutting torches, and benders.
• Uses MIG & Flux core welding processes to tack.
• Tack Carbon steel components using welding procedures.
• Fit-up ANSI flanges to pipe, forged flanges, elbows, reducers to pipe.
• Check fit ups using appropriate tools.
• Completing jobs based on standard shop procedures.
• Work with others to determine best solutions.
• Use overhead cranes, jib cranes and other lifting devices safely.
• Practice good housekeeping and dispose of waste per safety policies.
• Safe use of grinder to clean and prep fittings.
• Other duties as assigned by the Foreman.

What Does a Week in the Life of the Pipe Welder Look Like?

• MUST PASS 6G TEST WITH MIG & FLUXCORE (1/16th wire)
• Conforms to shop quality practices and procedures.
• Interprets drawings and specifications to define sequence of spools fabrication.
• Measure and mark pipes for cutting to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and benders.
• Uses MIG & Flux core welding processes to tack.
• Tack Carbon steel components using welding procedures.
• Fit-up ANSI flanges to pipe, forged flanges, elbows, reducers to pipe.
• Checks fit ups using appropriate tools.
• Completing jobs based on standard shop procedures.
• Works productively with others to help determine best solutions.
• Uses overhead cranes, jib cranes and other lifting/rigging devices to move components in a safe manner is a plus.
• Practice good housekeeping skills and properly dispose of waste according to safety and environmental policies.
• Safe practice of use of grinder to clean and prep fittings.
• Other duties as assigned by the Foreman.

Skills (to Pay the Bills)

• Ability to follow shop procedures, quality procedures and safely practices.
• Must have verbal skills with fluency for the responsibilities assigned.
• High School Diploma or its equivalent, and/or Trade School.
• Requires more than 4 years of pipe fitting experience and/or demonstrated ability to perform basic skills according to testing requirements.
• Proficient in basic math including addition/subtraction of whole numbers, fractions and decimals.
• Proficient in reading a tape measure/ ruler in increments of 1/16” or smaller and analog /digital level.
• Ability to calculate degrees and circumference using basic algebra and geometry.

Work Schedule

Spitzer currently runs two shifts, Monday through Friday with overtime on weekend work as needed. Late afternoon/evening/weekend hours may be required as needed. Work schedules may change to accommodate production needs.
