Job summary

Matrix Service Co is seeking an experienced welder to perform various welding and fabrication tasks on industrial construction sites in North Carolina. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of five years of experience in welding, be proficient in multiple welding processes, and be committed to workplace safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include ensuring high-quality welding, adhering to safety protocols, and maintaining equipment. Successful candidates must pass welding tests and complete required safety training. This role necessitates physical endurance and the ability to work in various conditions.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years in refinery maintenance, turnaround, or construction experience.
  • Must pass weld tests and possess practical welding skills.
  • Complete safety and site-specific training.

Description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Perform welding functions per jobsite specifications, covering various welding procedures, brazing, and cutting on all types of pipe in an industrial construction environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • Actively support the Company’s commitment to safety and its “Core Values.”
  • Represent the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company’s “Code of Business Conduct and Ethics.”
  • To work well with peers, supervision and the QA/QC Department.
  • Select equipment and plan layout and assembly of welding.
  • May weld pipe of all kinds, sizes and alloys by process of ARC, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, GAS, MIG, TIG, etc.
  • Weld high and low pressure pipe per specifications. All welds are subject to NDE testing including visual, hydro and 100% x-ray.
  • Fit up pipe in some instances, as well as perform grinding when required.
  • Weld on structural steel, handrails, brackets, non-piping components, etc.
  • Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
  • Must possess current certification in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW or FCAW.
  • Perform other related duties.
  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  • Perform all other job‑related duties as requested by supervision.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting.
  • Will talk and hear to communicate.
  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools
  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.
  • Will work at slight heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off of platforms using the appropriate fall protection requirements.
  • Must be able to work in weathering conditions including heat conditions while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and leather work boots.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
  • A general knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to pass Weld Test and have practical welding skill.
  • Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the required drug testing program.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check.
