Job summary

Metropolitan Utilities District is seeking a Pipe Layer Trainee in Omaha, NE. This role trains in classroom and field settings during a 24-month period, with progression to Pipe Layer upon successful completion.

The position offers an entry wage and a standard wage for experienced work, with a Monday–Friday first shift. Responsibilities include installing and repairing mains and services, excavating, joining pipes, backfilling, directing traffic, and operating district equipment.

Qualifications

• Good written and verbal communication with internal/external customers.
• Proficiency with PC and office software; SAP experience preferred.
• Ability to learn new or upgraded computer software as required.

Responsibilities

• Install and repair gas and water mains and services.
• Excavate and locate underground piping systems.
• Join pipes and fittings for proper fit and function.
• Backfill and restore excavations to original condition.
• Direct traffic at work sites to ensure safety.
• Operate District vehicles and equipment.
• Perform necessary physical tasks and assist crew members.
