RPM Utilities is seeking a dependable Pipe Layer Helper Subcontractor to support our underground utility construction crews. This position assists Pipe Layers, Foremen, and Equipment Operators with the installation of underground utility systems and general jobsite duties.
The ideal candidate is hardworking, safety-focused, able to perform physical labor, and interested in learning underground utility construction.
Responsibilities
- Assist Pipe Layers with installing underground utility pipe and fittings.
- Help prepare trenches and work areas for pipe installation.
- Assist with bedding, backfilling, grading, and compaction.
- Carry and position pipe, fittings, tools, and construction materials.
- Help measure, cut, and prepare pipe for installation.
- Assist with setting pipe to proper line, grade, elevation, and slope under supervision.
- Work safely in and around trenches, excavation areas, and heavy equipment.
- Spot and signal Equipment Operators as directed.
- Assist with installing valves, fittings, manholes, structures, and other utility components.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and properly.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Follow instructions from the Foreman, Pipe Layer, and other crew leaders.
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged tools, or jobsite concerns to the Foreman.
- Perform general labor duties as needed to support the crew.
Qualifications
- Previous construction, utility, excavation, or general labor experience preferred but not required.
- Underground utility experience is a plus.
- Willingness to learn pipe installation and underground utility construction.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to safely work around excavators, backhoes, loaders, and other heavy equipment.
- Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time.
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work in and around trenches and active construction sites.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, push, pull, and lift.
- Ability to lift and carry construction materials, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the workday.
- Must be able to work early mornings, overtime, and extended hours based on project needs.
