Job summary

Granite Construction Incorporated is seeking a field crew member to perform trenching, pipe laying, and erosion control tasks on construction projects in Orlando, FL. You will read blueprints, set grades, and ensure work meets safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities include excavating trenches, setting up dewatering, backfilling, and installing pipe with proper connections. This role requires physical endurance and strict adherence to OSHA safety policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent years of experience.
• Appropriate training and experience required.
• Follow safety policies and attendance at safety meetings.

Responsibilities

• Excavate trenches to required depth by hand or with excavator.
• Grade and level base of trenches using tamping machine and hand tools.
• Set up dewatering equipment to keep water level below bottom of trench.
• Lay out route of pipe following blueprints or written instructions.
• Lay pipes in trenches and weld/cement/glue/connect pieces.
• Set pipe structures to line and grade.
• Backfill pipe and structures with earth with proper compaction.
• Check slope using level or lasers.
• Maintain line and grade to meet specs.
• Install erosion control around pipes and structures.
• Know machines and tools, their design, use, repair, maintenance.
• Determine tools and equipment needed for a job.
• Experience installing bulkheads in pipes and structures.
• Perform physical activities: lifting, climbing, walking, and handling materials.
• Attend training to understand trenching requirements and regulations.
• Follow OSHA and Granite safety policies.
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

General Summary

Performs any combination of following tasks, such as excavating, lays route of pipes in trenches, install erosion control around pipes

Essential Job Accountabilities

• Excavate trenches to desired or required depth by hand or using excavator
• Grades and levels base of trench, using tamping machine and hand tools
• Set up dewatering equipment to keep water level below bottom of trench.
• Lays out route of pipe, following written instructions or blueprints
• Lays pipes in trenches and welds, cements, glues, or otherwise connects pieces together.
• Set pipe structures to line and grade.
• Backfills pipe and structures with earth or other materials with required compaction.
• Checks slope, using carpenter's level or lasers
• Maintain line and grade of the installed pipe to meet specification requirements.
• Install erosion control around completed pipe and structures.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
• Experience in installing bulkheads in pipe and structures, including the mixing and use of mortar.
• Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
• Attend training and have a full understanding of trenching requirements and regulations.
• Follow all OSHA and Company safety policies and procedures, including attendance at safety meetings
• Maintain a safe and clean work environment

Education

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience
