Birdon America Inc. is seeking an experienced Pipe Fitter for our on-site Bayou La Batre, AL shipyard. The role involves reading schematics, interpreting drawings, and assembling pipe systems for USCG boats.

The candidate will fabricate pipe spools (Butt Weld, Socket Weld, Threaded) and must have hands-on experience with hand and power tools, plus a strong math ability and attention to detail. This is a full-time on-site position at the Bayou La Batre facility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 5 years of experience as a Pipe Fitter.
• Fundamental knowledge in marine or manufacturing industry.
• Carry out verbal or written instructions from supervisor.
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Interpret pipe schematics, isometrics, and installation drawings and understand symbols.
• Comprehend reference information and general notes on drawings.
• Follow verbal or written instructions from supervisor.
• Identify pipe sizes, schedules and alloys.
• Understand standard/metric measurements and perform related math.
• Identify pipe fittings by symbols and know valve types (Gate, Globe, Butterfly, etc.).
• Fabricate pipe spools for Butt Weld, Socket Weld and Threaded systems with proper fit-up techniques.

This position is located on-site in our Bayou La Batre, AL shipyard

Our Pipe Fitter are an integral piece of our work on a daily basis. Join the Birdon team and help ensure USCG boats are safe and reliable!

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Interpret pipe schematics, isometrics, and installation drawings, understanding symbols, reference lines, and work points.
• Comprehend reference information and general notes on drawings.
• Carry out verbal or written instructions given by supervisor.
• Identify pipe sizes, pipe schedules and different alloys.
• Understand standard/metric measurements and able to perform math associated with trade.
• Identify types of pipe fittings by symbols. Have knowledge of the different types of valves and their functions (Gate, Globe, Butterfly, Check, Knife, etc.).
• Fabricate pipe spools for Butt Weld, Socket Weld and Threaded systems utilizing proper fit up techniques such as root openings on butt weld fittings, set back on socket weld fittings, flange orientation (two-hole, one hole or how to roll to a degree), take out dimensions of short and long radius fittings.
