Job summary

Gulf Copper in Port Arthur, TX seeks an experienced pipefitter to plan, assemble, and install pipe systems aboard ships and offshore structures. The position involves open-air work, variable conditions, and strict adherence to safety policies; training is provided where needed.

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial/marine pipefitting preferred.
  • Follows safety policies and uses PPE responsibly.
  • NCCER card preferred; ability to pass tests if required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair per specifications.
  • Inspect, test, and measure pipelines using gauges and testing methods.
  • Select pipe sizes and materials according to specs, with supports and fittings.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and install pipes and related equipment.
  • Assemble and secure pipes using welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, or threading.
  • Review drawings and provide sketches or corrections as needed.
  • Operate valves to isolate steam, water, or other substances per procedure.
  • Cut and install pipe using torches, saws, and threaders; replace worn components.
  • Work aboard ships or offshore, with confinement spaces and varied conditions.

Job description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

This positionis responsible forthe following: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  2. Inspect, examine, and test installed systems andpipelines, using pressuregauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or othermethods.
  3. Select pipe sizes and types and related materials, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
  4. Measure and mark pipes for cutting and threading.
  5. Attach pipes towalls,structures,and fixturessuch as radiators, exchangers,or tanks, using brackets, clamps,tools,or welding equipment.
  6. Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, byusingwelding, brazing, cementing,soldering, and threading joint methods.
  7. Layoutor reviewfull scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.Ability to provide sketches or corrections on drawings as needed.
  8. Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.(Marine divisions only)
  9. Cut, thread, andinstallpipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, and pipe threaders and benders.
  10. Remove and replace worncomponents.
Required Education & Experience:
  1. High School Diploma,one year certificate from college or technical schoolpreferred.
  2. Industrial and/or marinepipefitting experience:
  • 1stClass:3-5 years
  • 2ndClass:1-3 years
  1. Pass the Gulf Copper written pipe fitter and/or hands-on pipe fitter test when applicable.
  2. NCCER cardpreferred.
Working Conditions:
  1. Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc.
  2. Mustwear hearing, eye, headprotectionand proper PPE.
  3. Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved.
  4. Traverse gangways and scaffolding at varying heights while wearing fall prevention equipment.
  5. Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
  6. Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.
  7. Must be able to stand andoperateequipmentup to four continuous hours.
  8. The work requireslong periodsof sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over,crouching,and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
