POSITION IS LOCATED IN COLUMBUS, TX

Position Summary:

Responsible for completing routine welding and fitting assignments within clearly defined processes while working under moderate supervision.

PIPE WELDER/FITTER
  • Uses metal core MIG, fluxcore, subarc, TIG, or stick welding processes (must pass two or more)
  • Reads and understands P & ID drawings and other package layout drawings to determine appropriate welding process
  • Welds brackets and braces and uses grinders. Positions pieces to be welded into jigs, holding fixtures, guides, and steps using measuring instruments and hand tools. Performs position welds on code materials.
  • Proficient in flame and plasma cutting torches
  • Reads and understands blueprints and performs own fit-up
  • Operates basic cutting equipment
  • Layouts and marks weld points on parts or subassemblies using rule, square, scribe, or templates
  • Positions pieces to be welded using measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Works with different types and sizes of structural materials
  • Inspects complete welds for structural soundness
  • Operates cutting equipment and safely operates iron worker, overhead cranes, rigging, pipe threading machine, welding machine, tube bending machine, and pneumatic hand tools
  • Assembles components and fabricates equipment as needed for the job
Required Tests:
  • Must pass a 6G weld test (vessel or pipe)
  • Must pass a written fitters exam
Preferred Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least five (5) years of related experience and/or training, including welding school or on-the-job training
  • Knowledge of different types and sizes of pipe and vessel materials
Physical Strain:
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 30 pounds
  • Bending, squatting, climbing, pulling, stooping, twisting, reaching, working at elevated heights
