Job summary

School of Rock Chesapeake is seeking a dedicated Piano/keys Instructor to lead private lessons and rehearsals at our Chesapeake location. You will deliver engaging instruction across five core areas in our curriculum and help students grow in music and life skills.

With 3+ years of teaching or performing, you design thoughtful lessons, communicate progress to families, participate in rehearsals, and contribute to a vibrant, supportive music community.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of teaching and/or performing music professionally.
• Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design.
• Excellent ability to deal with a wide range of customers and people.
• Strong organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons and shows.
• Be sure students are learning fundamentals of music, not just songs.
• Create and document thoughtful lesson plans.
• Communicate regularly with parents on progress after lessons.
• Interact with parents and students in school, being visible and accessible.
• Assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in school.

With over 425 schools, and a strong internationally recognized brand, School of Rock is the largest after-school music education provider in the world. We put on shows to teach music! We are looking for a Piano/keys Teacher to join us at our Chesapeake location.

As a Piano/keys Instructor you will be responsible for all music education-related elements within the lessons and rehearsals, creating a dynamic experience to ensure students are challenged and inspired. The Piano Instructor/teacher positively embodies rock and roll and is responsible for creating a valuable student experience that helps our students learn music and life skills.

We teach five core areas at School of Rock - keys, vocals, guitar, bass and drums. Many of our instructors have broader musical talent as well which we do our best to engage.

Music Instruction:

• Maximize the quality of music instruction including private lessons and shows
• Be sure the students are learning the fundamentals of music, not just songs
• Create and document thoughtful lesson plans

Customer Connection:

• Communicate regularly with parents on progress of students after lessons
• Interact with parents and students regularly by being visible and accessible in the school
• Pitch in during canceled lessons in the overall execution of the program
• Assist in rehearsals and basic maintenance in school

Adheres to the School of Rock Code of Conduct, safety policies, including the Monitoring and Supervision policy.

Skill Requirements:

• 3+ years’ experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
• Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design
• Excellent ability to deal well with a wide range of customers and other people
• Strong organizational skills
• Very strong customer relations skills
• Resourceful and good problem-solver
• Works well under pressure
• Ideal candidate is a working musician who also has formal music school training
• Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
• Good judgment a must
• Passion for teaching
