Job summary

The Salvation Army in Saint Joseph, MO seeks a part-time music educator to work with children and adults in our corps and community. You will plan weekly music lessons, teach theory and performance, and implement the approved curriculum with faith-based values.

You will organize and attend all year-end recitals, support corps music programs, and help promote the mission through uplifting activities. The position involves practicing with participants and guiding summer camps as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.
• Minimum of two years’ music experience with children/adults; performance experience preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument.

Responsibilities

• Lead music and arts programs; plan weekly lessons and implement the curriculum.
• Coordinate year-end recitals; prep corps music programs for concerts.
• Encourage participants toward goals and develop musical skills and self-esteem.

Job Objective

Work with children and adults in the corps and community to plan and implement a music program whichwill include teaching theory, performance skills,music,and values.

Essential Functions

• Work within the corpsto lead music and other arts programs as assigned. Responsible for lesson planning for music classes each week and implementing theappropriate curriculumin the program.
• Workwithcorpsleadership,planand attend all therecitals at the corpsandprepthe corpsmusic programs toparticipatein theconcert at the end of each school year.
• Encourage participants to work towards a goal and sense of accomplishment in developing musical abilities. Encourage participants to discover and develop skills and talents that will heighten their self-esteem, increase school/program pride, and involve them in positive activities.
• Assistwith ensuring the music performances and activities heighten the awareness of the purpose of the Corps in the community.
• Encourage participants to attend summer camps which will lead them to develop further talents and make spiritual decisions. Be available to help plan the participation of campers in the summer camping programs. This includes the divisional music camp as well as any summer music daycamps.
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.

Experience: Aminimum of two years’ music experience working with children/adults. Performanceexperience is preferred.
