The Salvation Army USA Central Territory is seeking a part-time music instructor to work with children and adults in the corps and community, planning and implementing a piano-centered music program.

Responsibilities include providing quality piano accompaniment for choirs, rehearsals, recitals and concerts; coordinating with corps leadership; helping participants develop musical skills and self-esteem; and promoting the mission. Light travel and church environment involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.
• A minimum of two years’ music experience working with children / adults. Performance experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills; able to work with others and manage priorities.

Responsabilités

• Provide quality piano accompaniment for choir programs, rehearsals, recitals, and concerts.
• Plan and attend recitals and prep corps music programs for year-end concert.
• Encourage participants to develop musical abilities, self-esteem, and positive activities.
• Assist with promoting the Corps' mission in the community.
• Support participation in summer camps and divisional music programs.
• All other duties as assigned.

Job Objective: Work with children and adults in the corps and community to plan and implement a music program w hich will include teaching theory, performance skills, music, and values.

Essential Functions:

• Responsible for providing quality piano accompaniment for choir programs, including weekly rehearsals, recitals and concerts, and various performances throughout the year.
• Work with corps leadership, plan and attend all the recitals at the cor ps and prep the cor ps music programs to participate in the concert at the end of each school year.
• Encourage participants to work towards a goal and sense of accomplishment in developing musical abilities. Encourage participants to discover and develop skills and talents that will heighten their self-esteem, increase school / program pride, and involve them in positive activities.
• Assist with ensuring the music performances and activities heighten the awareness of the purpose of the Corps in the community.
• Encourage participants to attend summer camps which will lead them to develop further talents and make spiritual decisions. Be available to help plan the participation of campers in the summer camping programs. This includes the divisional music camp as well as any summer music day camps .
• All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in music preferred, or extensive experience teaching music.

Experience : A minimum of two years’ music experience working with children / adults. Performance experience is preferred.

Skills/Abilities:

• Demonstrated proficiency in music theory and in a primary instrument .
• Personal knowledge of music, including performance, education, and theory.
• Strong leadership and organizational skills.
• Must be a team player, self starter , and follow through with assignments until completion.
• A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations / priorities.
• A strong commitment to support and promote the mission of T he Salvation Army.

Supervisory Responsibility: N one

Physical Requirements : This position is required to do light physical work periodically in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use instruments and equipment needed in a music program. Frequent use of standard office equipment and a PC is also required . Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Travel : Occasional travel may be required .

Driving: Driving is Required; e mployee must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside . Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.

Working Conditions : The work environment for this position includes a program environment with moderate to high noise level.
