Job summary

UCI Health is seeking a Trauma PI Coordinator to oversee performance improvement and patient safety within the hospital’s trauma program. You will coordinate peer reviews, manage data systems, and track outcomes across the trauma continuum.

The role requires strong CQI knowledge, 3–5 years trauma nursing, and excellent communication to liaise with clinicians, administrators, and families. This is a hospital-based position within UCI Health’s trauma services.

Qualifications

  • Understanding of CQI principles; experience with CQI tools preferred.
  • Multitasks effectively in fast-paced environments.
  • 3–5 years of clinical trauma nursing (ED, OR, or trauma ICU).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to influence and interact with diverse audiences including clinicians and leadership.
  • Proficient with MS Office and information systems; able to produce charts and graphs.

Position Summary

Effectively coordinates all aspects of the trauma performance improvement and patient safety processes including systems and peer review processes. The P.I. Coordinator will be responsible for the maintenance of processes related to multidisciplinary trauma peer review and internal trauma systems issues including case reviews, identification of issues (provider and system), tracking and trending of complications/audit filters/issues, and maintenance of appropriate files and data systems. Demonstrates initiative, resourcefulness and problem solving skills. Demonstrates detailed knowledge of trauma hospital PIPS requirements, the trauma standard of care across the continuum and the operations of the hospital trauma system.

What It Takes to be Successful
  • Understanding of continuous quality improvement principles and concepts; experience using CQI tools and techniques strongly preferred
  • Must have demonstrated prior work experience multitasking in a fast paced environment
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years clinical trauma nursing experience, e.g., emergency department, operating room, surgical‑trauma intensive care unit
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, persuade and interact effectively with a wide variety of audiences, including community leaders, physicians, patients and families
  • Computer skill and experience using MSOffice products, specifically Outlook, Word, Excel, and information systems in general, with the ability to manage and produce charts, tables, and graphs
  • Bachelor of Science, Nursing
  • Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment in all situations
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality, CPHQ
  • MASTER OF SCIENCE IN NURSING
