Job summary

Occidental College is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor & Electronics Technician in the Physics department. You will support teaching and research by preparing, operating, maintaining, repairing, and fabricating scientific equipment and laboratory systems.

You will set up demonstrations, manage inventory, and provide technical support to faculty, staff, and students, coordinating with the Lab Coordinator as needed.

Qualifications

• Two years of college coursework in physics, electronics, engineering, or related field; and at least one introductory physics course.
• One year of experience maintaining and repairing physics lab instruments; electronics and computers.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair of physics lab instruments.
• Shop skills (drill press, electronic tools); CAD; measurement guides; calibration gear.
• Detail-oriented with ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; able to work with multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently and maintain accountability.

Responsibilities

• Set up lecture demonstrations and laboratory experiments.
• Repair, modify, and fabricate equipment for physics classroom demonstrations and labs.
• Develop new demonstrations and laboratory procedures in consultation with faculty.
• Maintain the inventory database; purchase and store technical supplies.
• Support and organize department activities outside regular hours; assist other departments’ students.
