About AI Training Work

AI training is the human side of building artificial intelligence. Experts review examples, evaluate model reasoning, write feedback, and identify errors so that advanced systems can produce more accurate and reliable results.

This project focuses on scientific evaluation. Your physics knowledge will help assess whether AI-generated or researcher-generated work is logically sound, technically accurate, and clearly presented.

The Physics Expert Role

OpenTrain AI is engaging Physics Experts at the postdoctoral or junior professor level for a remote contractor project supporting work in the science and technology sector. No prior AI experience is required, but strong physics expertise and the ability to evaluate technical reasoning are essential.

The expected project duration is 3 to 6 months. The role is focused on physics research and scientific AI evaluation, with approximately 30 openings available for candidates based in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom.

  • Contractor position
  • Remote work for candidates in the US, Canada, and UK
  • Compensation of $80 to $150 per hour
  • English-language work requiring fluent English proficiency
  • Expected project duration of 3 to 6 months
  • Approximately 30 openings
What You'll Do

You will review physics solutions, mathematical derivations, and theoretical arguments produced by researchers or AI platforms. Your feedback will support iterative improvements in the quality, accuracy, and usefulness of submitted work.

The work requires distinguishing substantive scientific problems from stylistic issues and explaining your conclusions with precision. You may also use technical tools to independently verify or challenge scientific claims.

  • Evaluate physics solutions, mathematical derivations, and theoretical arguments.
  • Identify errors, unjustified steps, missing assumptions, dimensional inconsistencies, and weaknesses in logic or methodology.
  • Separate substantive scientific issues from cosmetic or stylistic concerns.
  • Document the reasoning behind identified flaws and provide actionable improvement guidance.
  • Recognize valid reasoning that could be optimized, clarified, or made more rigorous.
  • Use LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter for verification and cross-checking as appropriate.
  • Deliver structured, technically precise feedback.
Required Expertise and Qualifications

This role is intended for physics experts with advanced research experience and exceptional technical communication skills. The listed experience level is entry level for AI work, but the subject-matter expectations are advanced and research focused.

Candidates should be able to evaluate complex scientific arguments independently, explain nuanced findings in writing, and apply calibrated technical judgment when reviewing other people's work.

  • Mastery of physics and expertise in physics research or scientific AI evaluation.
  • Strong written technical communication skills.
  • Critical evaluation and error-detection ability.
  • Calibrated technical judgment and verification fluency.
  • PhD in physics and an active record of independent research are preferred.
  • Postdoctoral researcher, research fellow, junior or assistant professor, or senior research scientist experience is preferred.
  • Recent representative publications from approximately the last five years, with arXiv or DOI links, are preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with LaTeX, SymPy, Python, and Jupyter is preferred.
  • Experience reviewing others' work through peer review, supervision, dissertation committees, or group seminars is preferred.
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a computer suitable for rigorous technical work.
Relevant Physics Backgrounds

Research experience may come from a specialized physics subfield relevant to the evaluation work. Applicants should highlight the area in which they can provide the strongest technical judgment and review expertise.

  • High-energy or mathematical physics
  • Biophysics or statistical physics
  • Condensed matter physics
  • Atomic, molecular, and optical physics or quantum optics
  • Gravitation or cosmology
  • Quantum information
  • Optical materials
Application and Screening Notes

Candidates must be based in the United States, Canada, or the United Kingdom and should be comfortable working in English.

The technical screening assessment must be completed without AI tools. The assessment is intended to evaluate your personal physics knowledge and skills, and using AI assistance will lead to immediate rejection.
