Job summary

McKinsey & Company is seeking a highly skilled computational scientist to advance physics-based modeling and ML for industrial engineering. You will lead technical workstreams on client engagements, building multi-physics frameworks and digital twins, and translating insights into strategic recommendations.

You will join the Scientific and Physical AI team within Advanced Industries, contributing to a first-of-its-kind physics AI capability and collaborating with global experts to deliver

Qualifications

• Advanced graduate degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in computational mechanics, materials science, mechanical/aerospace/nuclear engineering, computational physics, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated ability to develop high-quality engineering or scientific code (e.g., in Python, C++).
• Fluency with statistical sampling, machine learning, and data science techniques.
• Simulation experience; PyTorch and ML/AI/Data Science a plus.
• Excellent organizational capabilities and independence.
• Data-driven decision making and logical reasoning.
• Ability to create work products (PPT, Excel models, documents).
• Strong time management in autonomous environments.
• Ability to travel and work in varied environments, including facilities.
• Strong English communication; ability to adapt to office languages.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical workstreams on client engagements in physics-based modelling and ML.
• Build multi-physics simulation frameworks and digital twins.
• Develop surrogate and machine learning models for engineering systems.
• Apply physics-informed ML to real-world engineering problems.
• Deploy scalable production tools on HPC infrastructure.
• Translate computational insights into strategic client recommendations.
