University Cancer & Blood Center is looking to hire a part-time physicist.

Responsibilities
  • Calibrate therapy equipment to ensure accurate radiation dose delivery.
  • Determine radiation dose distributions for patients undergoing treatment (computerized dosimetry planning or direct radiation measurement).
  • Design and construct patient treatment aids or special devices such as blocks, molds, etc.
  • Perform routine duties independently of supervision.
  • Consult with radiation oncologists regarding patient doses and optimization of treatment plans and delivery.
  • Develop policies and procedures related to radiation safety and radiation oncology physics.
  • Participate in equipment planning, evaluation, and program planning.
  • Lead the acceptance testing of new equipment and treatment devices.
  • Direct the radiation safety program for the radiation oncology department.
  • Maintain working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and maintain proper records for NRC, state, or other regulatory agencies.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Analyze new knowledge gained from conferences, workshops, professional literature, and assimilate it into clinical practice.
Qualifications
  • Master of Science or Doctoral degree in Radiological Physics, Health Physics or a related discipline.
  • Certification by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics and compliance with the ACR Standard of Continuing Education.
  • Two or more years post‑degree clinical experience or completion of a post‑degree clinical medical physics residency program under the preceptorship of a physicist certified by the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics.
  • Strong mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus, and the ability to visualize objects in three‑dimensional concepts to facilitate the treatment planning process.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Requires sitting, standing, walking, some bending, stooping, and stretching, including lifting up to 25 pounds. Potential exposure to communicable illnesses from patients. Extensive computer work, including long periods of viewing computer screens.
