Job description

As a surgeon with Highlands Oncology, you will help bring cancer treatment HOME to the Northwest Arkansas Community.

Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 800 diverse team members.

As Northwest Arkansas continues to grow, so must the services and providers available in the region. Highlands Oncology is committed to remaining on the cutting edge to ensure our community has access to the very best cancer care. What we have is something quite unique right here in our own backyard with a caring multidisciplinary team focused on treating patients like family.

Highlands Oncology is actively seeking an exceptional Board-Certified/Board Eligible Colorectal Surgeon to join our Surgical Oncology Practice. This is an extraordinary opportunity to be a part of a growing practice, shaping its future while providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients in the community.

As a Fellowship-Trained Colorectal Surgeon, preferably Board-Certified and with prior Colon and Rectal Surgery experience, you will have the opportunity to serve patients of the Northwest Arkansas area. This role offers the chance to engage in a highly rewarding, innovative practice in a well-supported environment. Highlands Oncology is the premiere oncology practice in Arkansas offering medical oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology services to include breast, colorectal, urologic and gynecologic specialties.

Why Highlands Oncology?
  • Collaborative Environment: Join an elective colorectal practice that emphasizes teamwork and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care. Work closely with medical and radiation oncology through weekly multidisciplinary conferences for comprehensive surgical planning and other surgical specialties to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Comprehensive Support: Benefit from great support from all specialties in our practice as well as ancillary support services for colorectal patients. Outpatient enterostomal therapy is available on site at our Parkway office as well as ostomy support groups.
  • Leadership Role: Play a key role in the development and expansion of the colorectal surgery service line, with the opportunity to influence the direction and growth of this important subspecialty in the Northwest Arkansas region.
  • Work-Life Balance: Our practice focuses on initial consultations, surgical planning, surgery, follow-up visits, and the interpretation of results. You'll coordinate follow-up care with oncology and other services based on patient needs on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Work schedules are flexible and work-life balance is encouraged.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive care to colorectal patients, including initial consultations, the development of surgical plans, surgery, and follow-up visits in a busy practice.
  • Work collaboratively with a highly skilled team of specialists, including medical oncology, radiation oncology, and other surgical services, ensuring the best possible patient care.
  • Ensure continuity of care by coordinating follow-up care and collaborating with oncology and other services to meet the evolving needs of patients.
  • Deliver a full range of colorectal services, leveraging advanced technology and a robust support system to optimize patient outcomes.
Qualifications
  • ABCRS certified or eligible surgeon with fellowship training in colorectal surgery.
  • Board Certification in Colon and Rectal Surgery will be required within 3 years of hire.
  • Strong passion for providing comprehensive care and building a subspecialty service.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment. Post residency experience is preferred.
  • Commitment to excellent patient care and a patient-centered approach.
  • Laparoscopic and/or robotic experience are essential. Extensive robotic access is available to grow or improve robotic practice.
Requirements

Candidates must possess superior surgical, leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrate the ability and desire to develop interdisciplinary collaborations and work well with others. The practice values the individual strengths and experiences each physician brings to the practice. Highlands welcomes candidates eager to build a practice and establish themselves in a high quality patient care organization.
