Summary

The Physician Staff Specialist 2 provides administrative support services to the Graduate Medical Education office by coordinating the process for both staff and health professional affiliate staff. This individual is responsible for collecting relevant data that will serve as a basis for decisions regarding appointment and/or reappointments as well as delineating clinical privileges in order to meet the highest standard of credentialing. This incumbent may have a role in personnel administration and acts in a confidential capacity to assist or aid department management. The position will have a significant role in processing confidential information.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates an understanding of job responsibilities, job knowledge, and competency in order to perform job duties in a time efficient manner, producing and overall excellence of output.
  • Ensures that all staff files are updated on a constant basis.
  • Processes residents' applications for credentialing purposes.
  • Processes residents' applications for credentialing and related purposes which include sending applications with the delineation of privileges forms to practitioners within a reasonable period of time.
  • Ensures that the credentialing process is carried out pursuant to the Staff Bylaws. Queries relevant information on applicants for credentialing within five business days from receipt of completed application.
  • Sends seconds requests when necessary to obtain information that will be relevant to the Credential's Committee's decision.
  • Ensures that the Credentials file is complete.
  • Ensures that all appropriate signatures are obtained within required timeframe.
  • Type letters of appointments.
  • Ensures that a fully executed contract is on file for those physicians that are not employed by JMH and supervise residents.
  • Ensures that Chief of Services recommendations are forwarded to Credentials Committee for further recommendations to the appropriate committees pursuant to staff bylaws.
  • Interfaces with other departments gathering and coordinating the quality data for the performance profile for all reappointments within the required time frame.
  • Performs general office and secretarial work, including typing and filing, and preparation of special reports as requested by Administration.
  • Attends and assists with staff meetings, as requested.
  • Prioritizes assignments/projects during times of increased demands.
  • Always seeks information needed to remain informed and advises Administrator of Physician Services of general and specific problems and suggests methods of improving department and hospital operations.
  • Keeps abreast of trends and departmental changes by reviewing all revisions of the Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations, and policies and procedures; participating in staff meetings and professional organizations as designated by the department.
  • Maintains the software programs within the department for accurate and up to date information; Care and Cactus.
  • Consistently is available to work additional hours when necessary to complete special projects or to meet departmental needs, as well as demonstrating the willingness to assist other staff members to meet department and/or hospital goals.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience

Physical Requirements

Job function is sedentary in nature and requires sitting for extended periods of time. Function may require frequent standing or walking. Must be able to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
