Job description

We are looking for an exceptional Physician Scientist to join our Cardiometabolic Therapeutic Area Genetics (TAG) team at the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC).

Within the RGC, the Cardiometabolic TAG team uses large-scale human exome sequencing for discovering and validating new therapeutic targets in obesity and related metabolic diseases. The position holder will collaborate with various RGC teams and Regeneron’s pre-clinical and clinical development teams to accelerate therapeutic development for genetically-validated targets in obesity and metabolic disease through new human genetics and epidemiological insights.

In this role, a typical day might include:
  1. Accelerating therapeutic development for genetically-validated targets via new human genetics and epidemiological insights.
  2. Designing and executing studies to address key research questions, interpreting results, and summarizing insights for diverse audiences (documents, presentations, patents, publications).
  3. Utilizing RGC and external datasets, along with scientific literature, to answer research questions, and weighing evidence appropriately.
  4. Supporting target nominations and validation using RGC’s human genetics capabilities and Regeneron’s therapeutic platforms.
  5. Partnering with Clinical Development to evaluate clinical programs and identify opportunities for genetics studies in indication selection and safety evaluation.
  6. Participating in the scientific community within the Cardiometabolic TAG, RGC, and Regeneron, fostering an inclusive culture.
  7. Representing the team in cross-functional initiatives within RGC and Regeneron.
This job might be for you if you have:
  1. Proven ability to lead human genetics and epidemiological studies that produce medically relevant findings.
  2. Knowledge to define phenotypes for genetic studies and formulate innovative research questions, with familiarity in clinical genetics concepts and disease models.
  3. Strong computational skills, experience with large datasets (e.g., UK Biobank), proficiency in R or similar, and familiarity with high-performance computing.
  4. Experience leading complex genetics research, understanding of study designs (GWAS, sequencing, etc.), and ability to integrate diverse data sources.
  5. Familiarity with genetics applications for clinical insights, including polygenic risk scores and Mendelian randomization.
  6. Understanding of drug development and clinical trial design; experience in RCTs is a plus. Clinical management or medical research in cardio-metabolic disease is beneficial but not mandatory.

Candidates should have an MD with a strong background in human genetics and epidemiology. An MD/PhD with training in translational genetics, epidemiology, and quantitative skills is highly desirable.
