Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Physician Relations Team Manager based in the United States.

As a Physician Relations Team Manager, you will lead a team dedicated to strengthening physician partnerships and expanding patient referral networks across multiple clinical service lines. You will oversee daily team operations, develop outreach strategies, and establish performance goals aligned with new patient acquisition objectives. By leveraging CRM platforms, claims intelligence, and market insights, you will identify new referral opportunities and measure the effectiveness of outreach initiatives. You will collaborate closely with physician offices, practice operations leaders, and internal stakeholders to improve referral processes and remove barriers to patient access. This leadership role combines team development, strategic planning, performance analytics, and relationship management in a dynamic healthcare environment. With a nationwide remote working arrangement and regular travel, you will help drive sustainable growth while improving the patient experience.

Accountabilities
  • Team Leadership and Development: Manage the day-to-day operations of the physician relations team, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and ongoing professional development. Foster a collaborative, results-oriented environment that supports individual growth and team success.
  • Performance Management and Goal Setting: Establish clear performance metrics and quarterly productivity targets aligned with new patient volume objectives across clinical service lines. Lead quarterly and annual target account planning, define outreach goals, and conduct regular team meetings and one-on-one check-ins to monitor progress and address performance gaps.
  • Physician Relationship Management: Coach, evaluate, and monitor team members' sales, relationship-building, and outreach skills as they engage with physician offices and their staff. Strengthen relationships with existing referral partners while identifying opportunities to expand the network of referring physicians.
  • Strategic Outreach and Referral Development: Develop and implement targeted outreach strategies using customer relationship management (CRM) data and third-party claims intelligence to identify prospective referral sources, prioritize high-value accounts, and support new patient acquisition.
  • Market Analysis and Campaign Optimization: Analyze market trends, physician referral patterns, and outreach campaign results to evaluate performance and determine return on investment (ROI). Use data-driven insights to refine engagement strategies, allocate resources effectively, and maximize the impact of physician relations activities.
  • Patient Acquisition and Operational Improvement: Partner with practice operations leaders to improve new patient acquisition processes, expand access to care, leverage technology, and eliminate administrative or operational barriers that create friction for patients and referring providers.
  • Field Intelligence and Strategic Recommendations: Gather insights from field activities and communicate relevant findings to leadership regarding patient scheduling, referral management processes, competitor strategies, and evolving physician needs. Translate these observations into actionable recommendations that support business growth and operational effectiveness.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with stakeholders across clinical services, practice operations, and leadership to align physician outreach initiatives with organizational objectives, resolve operational challenges, and build consensus on priorities and improvements.
  • Operational Oversight and Policy Compliance: Supervise professional employees and ensure that team activities follow established policies, procedures, and performance expectations. Contribute to operational planning and process development while maintaining accountability for team outcomes.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: Approximately 8-12 years of professional experience is preferred, ideally in physician relations, healthcare business development, sales, strategic account management, or a related field.
  • Education: A bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
  • Healthcare Industry Knowledge: Previous experience working with primary care physicians, specialty care providers, physician groups, or value-based care organizations is preferred.
  • Team Management and Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage teams, coach employees, oversee performance, support onboarding, and develop team members to achieve measurable business objectives.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Experience establishing performance targets, developing account plans, managing outreach initiatives, and aligning team activities with broader patient acquisition and growth goals.
  • Sales and Relationship-Building Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build productive relationships with physicians, office staff, clinical leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Data Analysis and Performance Measurement: Ability to interpret CRM data, claims intelligence, referral trends, and market insights to identify growth opportunities, assess campaign effectiveness, and measure return on investment.
  • Operational and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong organizational and analytical abilities, with experience identifying process inefficiencies, resolving operational challenges, and implementing improvements that enhance patient access and referral management.
  • Communication and Stakeholder Management: Ability to communicate field insights and performance results clearly, influence stakeholders at different organizational levels, and build consensus around strategic and operational priorities.
  • Adaptability and Accountability: A proactive, results-driven approach to managing competing priorities, responding to changing market conditions, and maintaining focus on measurable outcomes.
  • Travel Requirements: Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10-15% of the time across the United States.
Benefits
  • Competitive Annual Salary: Anticipated base salary range of $106,700-$167,640, depending on geographic location, qualifications, experience, skills, and internal compensation equity.
  • Bonus Eligibility: This position is eligible for a performance-based bonus, subject to the applicable compensation plan.
