Job description

Summary

The South Central VA Health Care Network (VISN 16) is seeking a qualified Radiologist Physician within the Imaging Service to serve at one of the eight facilities listed above. The incumbent works independently within the service and reports to the service chief. This position is not offered for remote, telework or virtual duty. Posted: 19-May-26. Location: Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below as well as any additional requirements indicated in the job announcement.

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification.
• Veterans Affairs may accept physicians who are currently enrolled in accredited residency training programs as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) on an intermittent basis.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Preferred: Board Certified or Eligible in Radiology/Diagnostic Radiology.

Physical Requirements

• Moderate lifting (15–44 pounds), moderate carrying (15–44 pounds). Light carrying (under 15 pounds).
• Use of fingers, both hands required; pushing, pulling hands over hand (1 hour), walking (3 hours).
• Ability to kneel (3 hours), repeated bending (2 hours), both legs required.
• Rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; near‑vision correctable at 13–16 inches to Jaeger 1–4; far‑vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; both eyes required.
• Depth perception and basic color discrimination.
• Environmental factors: protracted or irregular hours of work.

Duties

• Open continuous announcement until September 30, 2026; remain open until vacancies arise.
• Qualified applications will be referred at regular intervals.
• Position not offered for remote or virtual duty; incumbent must be physically located within 50 miles of the facility selected.
• Interprets diagnostic images including digital radiography, CT, MRI, US, fluoroscopy, and other modalities; reports findings electronically through the VISN 16 PACS and dictation software.
• Provides appropriate imaging protocols, interventional radiology ancillary support, and clinical oversight of contrast administration.
• Communicates life‑threatening findings immediately and supports multidisciplinary tumor boards.
• Protects and secures sensitive data in compliance with the Privacy Act of 1974 and VA policies.
• Participates in quality assurance activities such as peer review, protocol review, and performance improvement.
• May perform rotating on‑call duties; schedule usually Monday‑Friday 8:00 am–4:30 pm, subject to change.
