Job description

Overview

Physician (Psychiatry) – Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation with the Defense Health Agency, located at the Desmond T. Doss Health Clinic, Psychiatry Services, Schofield Barracks, HI.

Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Serve as a recognized technical authority in delivering psychiatric medical care across a wide range of patient presentations.
  • Provide treatment services in inpatient, consultation liaison, partial hospitalization, day programs, emergency, tele‑psychiatric and outpatient settings.
  • Develop and monitor individualized treatment plans, including pharmacological and psychotherapeutic options, electroconvulsive therapy, transcranial magnetic stimulation, and other modalities.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial evaluations, prescribe medication, and coordinate referrals to other medical and mental health providers.
  • Collaborate with other medical specialties and provide professional consultation, supervision, and support to psychologists, nurses, social workers, and other staff.
  • Serve on Medical Evaluation Boards, determine fitness for duty, and provide timely communication of mental‑health issues to a patient’s Command.

Administrative and Educational Duties

  • Participate in hospital‑approved behavioral health training programs and supervise psychiatric residents, interns, medical students, psychologists, and other trainees.
  • Assist in developing training guidelines and evaluating impact.
  • Engage in scholarly research, including the development, testing or evaluation of innovative therapies.
  • Participate in committees and meetings for quality assurance, performance improvement, risk management, and peer review.
  • Recommend improvements to work methods, policies, and mental‑health treatment guidelines at the facility, service component, and DHA levels.
  • Present research at national conferences and advise on local and national meetings, committees, and boards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens.

Basic Requirement: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school. Must have current, active, unrestricted state license or registration. Must have completed at least one year of supervised clinical experience (internship or first year of residency).

Residency Training: Must have successfully completed accredited residency training in psychiatry for at least 4 years. Additional required training or equivalent experience must not substitute for residency training.

In addition, candidates may receive credit for volunteer experience through National Service programs and other organizations. Respective transcripts and documentation will be required.

If selected, salary details will be provided after the initial job offer is accepted and the Activity Compensation Panel determines compensation.
