Job Summary

Position: Physician – Clinical Trials and Safety Oversight (National Institute of Mental Health, NIH Bethesda Campus) – Part Time, Day Shift.

Salary: $130.00 - $160.00 per hour. Location: Bethesda, MD 20892.

Responsibilities

• Provide analysis, evaluation, and technical assessment to support planning and implementation of clinical and basic research projects, including clinical trials.
• Administer and monitor clinical trials, ensuring participant protection, safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Review clinical protocols for safety, assess serious adverse events, and advise protocol investigators and IRBs.
• Serve as the program safety expert on safety committees and review safety monitoring plans, adverse event reporting, and clinical study reports.
• Recommend protocol design improvements and assist in the selection, implementation, and evaluation of interventions.
• Coordinate clinical protocol development, review, and implementation; advise program management on merits and deficiencies of proposed studies.
• Develop policies and guidelines on safety and conduct periodic medical data reviews of laboratory values, adverse events, and trial outcomes.
• Provide guidance and training to staff on clinical, regulatory, and operational issues, including site visits and IND applications.
• Act as a medical liaison between NIH and research working groups, attending scientific meetings and conferences.

Qualifications

• M.D. required; licensed physician or board‑eligible.
• Skilled in clinical research, patient care, risk management, and site visits.
• Expertise in regulatory compliance, human research subject protections, recruitment/enrollment, and protocol review.
• Experience with administrative summaries, trial oversight, CRIS, CTDB, MS Office Suite, and Outlook.
• Strong communication, organizational, and prioritization skills.
