Job summary

Banner University Medical Center Phoenix seeks a Clinical Transplant Nephrologist to serve as Medical Director of the Kidney Living Donor and Pancreas Transplant Programs and join a growing academic transplant team.

This leadership role involves pre- and post-transplant care, donor evaluation, waitlist management, research, teaching, mentorship, and collaboration within a nationally recognized health system.

Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Nephrology.
  • Completion of an accredited Transplant Nephrology Fellowship.
  • Experience and competency in renal biopsy, dialysis and kidney transplantation.
  • Eligible for Arizona medical licensure.
  • Commitment to academic medicine and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient transplant nephrology care.
  • Manage post-kidney transplant patients during hospitalization and outpatient follow-up.
  • Conduct kidney transplant candidate evaluations and waitlist management.
  • Provide primary nephrology support for solid organ transplant candidates.
  • Lead multidisciplinary transplant rounds and participate in selection meetings.
  • Participate in a shared inpatient call and weekend coverage rotation.
  • Serve as physician leader for Living Donor Kidney and Pancreas programs.
  • Support quality, regulatory, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to policy development, protocol implementation, and practice standardization.
  • Foster partnerships with nephrology groups; engage in teaching and mentoring.

Job description

Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, in partnership with the University of Arizona, is seeking an outstanding Clinical Transplant Nephrologist to serve as Medical Director of our Kidney Living Donor and Pancreas Transplant Programs and join a growing team of dedicated academic transplant physicians. This is an exceptional opportunity to become a key leader within a rapidly expanding transplant program while helping shape the future of kidney and pancreas transplantation across Arizona. The successful candidate will play an integral role in delivering comprehensive transplant nephrology care across the continuum of transplantation, including pre-transplant evaluation, peri-transplant management, living donor assessment, waitlist management, and post-transplant care.

This position also offers significant opportunities for program development, research, education, mentorship, and leadership within a nationally recognized academic health system. The candidate selected will receive a non-tenured faculty appointment to the University of Arizona commensurate with their credentials. Clinical Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient transplant nephrology care.
  • Manage acute post-kidney transplant patients during hospitalization and outpatient follow-up.
  • Conduct kidney transplant candidate evaluations and waitlist management.
  • Provide primary nephrology support for solid organ transplant candidates.
  • Collaborate closely with transplant nephrologists and surgeons, advanced practice providers, coordinators, pharmacists, social workers, dietitians, and referring nephrologists.
  • Lead multidisciplinary transplant rounds and participate in transplant selection committee meetings.
  • Participate in a shared inpatient call and weekend coverage rotation within a collaborative, multidisciplinary transplant care model.
Leadership Responsibilities
  • Serve as a physician leader for the Living Donor Kidney and Pancreas Transplant Programs.
  • Support quality, regulatory, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in monthly quality and performance meetings.
  • Contribute to policy development, protocol implementation, and practice standardization.
  • Foster strong partnerships with community and private practice nephrology groups.
  • Support strategic growth initiatives across kidney and pancreas transplantation.
  • Involvement in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, nurse practitioners, and interdisciplinary team members.
Qualifications Required
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical or osteopathic school of medicine
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Nephrology
  • Completion of an accredited Transplant Nephrology Fellowship
  • Experience and competency in renal biopsy, dialysis and kidney transplantation
  • Eligible for Arizona medical licensure
  • Commitment to academic medicine, interdisciplinary collaboration, and patient-centered care
Preferred
  • Minimum of five years of academic post-fellowship experience
  • Previous transplant program leadership experience
  • Demonstrated involvement in clinical research, teaching, and scholarly activity.
