Job summary

SLUCare Physician Group, a member of SSM Health, seeks a community pathologist to provide leadership and clinical coverage for two Illinois hospitals (Mt. Vernon and Centralia). The role includes surgical pathology, cytopathology, and clinical pathology with close collaboration to SLU pathology faculty.

The qualified candidate will hold an M.D., BC in AP/CP or APCP board eligibility, and be eligible for Illinois licensure. Experience in a hospital-based pathology laboratory is desired.

Qualifications

  • M.D. degree required with board eligibility/certification in AP/CP.
  • Illinois medical license required; Missouri license preferred.
  • Experience in surgical pathology, cytopathology and clinical pathology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide Clinical and Anatomical Pathology coverage at two hospitals in central southern Illinois (Mt. Vernon and Centralia).
  • Lead and collaborate with laboratory leadership and clinicians across campuses.
  • Report and maintain medical records related to professional services rendered.
  • Maintain compliance with Medical Staff bylaws and institutional policies.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Community-based pathologist opportunity with an academic medical center!

SLUCare Physician Group, a member of SSM Health, is seeking a community pathologist to provide laboratory leadership and general coverage for two hospitals in central southern Illinois (Mt. Vernon and Centralia). Responsibilities include surgical pathology, cytopathology, and clinical pathology. As a staff pathologist, collaboration with laboratory leadership and clinicians on both hospital campuses will be required. Job Duties:
  • Provides Clinical and Anatomical Pathology coverage as needed; provides diagnostics such as the presence and stage of diseases using laboratory techniques and patient specimens.
  • Meets the obligations and responsibilities set forth in the Medical Staff bylaws of those healthcare facilities at which the Employer requires the Employee to maintain Medical Staff membership.
  • Responsible for reporting any damage to or insufficiency of all furnishings, medical appliances, equipment, facilities and fixtures, including scientific equipment, upon discovery.
  • Prepares and maintains medical and other records as described in the Policies with respect to the Professional Services rendered any Patient pursuant to this Agreement.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of anatomic and clinical pathology
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Doctorate degree in medicine
  • BC in AP/CP, APCP board eligibility
  • Able to obtain a license to practice medicine in Illinois (required), Missouri (preferred)
