Job summary

State of Hawaii - Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Health Care Division, is seeking a physician to provide medical services to inmates at Halawa to Kalihi, with duties including examination, diagnosis, treatment, and emergency coverage. A current Hawaii medical or osteopathy license is required.

Responsibilities include developing treatment plans, consulting with health-care staff, and coordinating with the Medical Director to procure services for efficient operations.

Qualifications

• Current license to practice medicine or osteopathy in Hawaii.

Responsibilities

• Examines patients, makes diagnoses, prescribes medication, and performs procedures.
• Determines the need for laboratory tests, imaging examinations, or referrals to specialists or transfer to medical facilities for more specialized diagnostic and treatment services.
• Develops treatment plans and devises therapy for medical or surgical conditions of inmates.
• Provides consultation services to Health Care Section nurses, therapists, or other health care staff.
• Assists the Medical Director and the Correctional Health Care Administrator to procure medical services for the efficient operation of the Clinical Services Section.
• Performs minor surgeries and procedures within the Health Care Section and is subject to call at any time in providing emergency service or consultation to Branch staff.
• Prepares and maintains appropriate entries in medical records, including diagnoses, treatment, and case histories of all inmates evaluated.
• Conducts reviews of medical records and other monitoring activities as a component of the Division’s quality improvement program, as requested.
• Attends Health Care Division Providers and Therapeutic Committee meetings, as required.
• Performs other duties involving the provision of medical services, as assigned.

Salary: $139,644 - $377,772 per year (annual salary commensurate with education and experience)

Physician Duties: 80%

Legal Authorization to Work Requirement

Contract and Hours

Employment for twelve-month renewable contracts from the date of execution through June 30th of the following year.
