Job Summary

The Internal Medicine Physician – Without Hospital Call provides direct patient care in accordance with training, experience, and licensure. The position will participate as a member of the medical team within the Center and function as an educational resource to patients, the Center, students, and the Community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in direct patient care, including family planning and general adult care (patients 18+ and younger as experience supports).
  • Meet minimum patient care productivity requirements set by the Center to satisfy funding and reimbursement sources.
  • Provide continuous comprehensive and culturally sensitive health care of the highest quality.
  • Provide case management to Center patients.
  • Document all care activities in the medical record, including education, medications, referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow‑up.
  • Assist in organizing and participating in special clinics, such as the migrant camp program, as needed.
  • Provide services at sites other than the primary site as required.
  • Oversee support staff regarding individual patient management.
  • Participate in case management reviews and discussions for complex patients, such as diabetics.
  • Assist in implementing plans to meet the objectives of the annual Health Plan and other goals set by the QA/QI committee and managed‑care plans.
  • Participate in chart audits to assess the success of the QA/QI program.
  • Attend medical staff, QA/QI meetings and other committees within the Center to improve patient care and operations.
  • Supervise students and residents in the health care professions.
  • Consult with and support nurse practitioners and physician assistants as requested.
  • Participate in professional committees at the community or hospital level that aid Center integration into the community.
  • Assume temporary Medical Director responsibilities in the absence of the incumbent.
  • Handle protected health information (PHI) consistently with HIPAA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
HIPAA Requirements

The licensed independent health care practitioner (provider) will have access to PHI in the course of duties. PHI is used for treatment and quality assurance operations. The minimum necessary standard of HIPAA applies to the demographic and scheduling information in the practice management system and the full medical record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
  • Strong commitment to working with patients and staff from diverse ethnic, economic, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred; willingness to attain sufficient Spanish competency to provide care.
Education and Experience Required
  • Current Oregon medical license and DEA registration.
  • Board certification in Internal Medicine.
  • Current staff privileges at Tuality Community Hospital and OHSU, per scope of practice.
