Job summary

Avera Health in Alabama is seeking a physician to provide and manage direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures, and patient care within a defined service area. You will assess, diagnose, treat, perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, interpret results, and collaborate with the care team to ensure high‑quality care and patient safety.

Requires state licensure, board eligibility/certification, and a DEA license; benefits include PTO from day 1, retirement matching, and career

Qualifications

• Must hold a Medical Doctor (MD) license or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) license (state of practice) and be board certified or board eligible.
• Must hold and maintain DEA license (federal).
• Board certification or eligibility for the relevant specialty is required upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose, and treat patients per approved protocols and standards.
• Provide medical services and health education to patients and families.
• Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed.
• Interpret diagnostic information and formulate an appropriate plan of care.
• Maintain patient records accurately and ensure safety and quality of care.
• Collaborate with care team and ensure proper referrals when needed.
• Uphold policies, procedures, and safety standards; engage in team communication.

A Brief Overview

Provides and manages direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures, and care for patients within a recognized area of practice.

What you will do

• Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients according to medical staff approved protocol and acceptable standards of practice.
• Provides medical services and health education to patients and family members. Effectively contributes to the health education of individuals and groups and applies appropriate methods designed to increase each person’s motivation to assume responsibility for their own health care.
• Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Interprets information gathered during the diagnostic process and formulates appropriate plan of care.
• Provides quality care for patient, demonstrates appropriate health, safety, and aseptic practices.
• Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care. Effectively provides patient instruction related to environment of care and safety standards.
• Understands, applies, and supports practice policies, procedures, goals and standards.
• Meets regularly with the care team for consultation and collaboration as well as with personnel to promote quality care for patients. Assures that appropriate referrals are made for patients.
• Maintains patient records and accurate information.
