UTMB Health in Texas seeks a physician to provide professional diagnosis and treatment for inmate patients within the Correctional Managed Care program. You will render medical judgments, supervise physicians and mid-level practitioners, and ensure timely, compliant health services for the inmate population.
You will work under the Regional Physician with broad latitude for initiative and will oversee unit medical operations, including documentation, referrals, and after-hours coverage.
The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
Provides professional services related to diagnosis and treatment of inmate patients and of employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID work related activities. Ensures that appropriate health care in accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion. Renders final medical judgement regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit according to Health Services Policies and Procedures. Directs all Health Services activities on the unit and assumes ultimate responsibility for all Health Services employees assigned to the unit. Works under the general direction of the Regional Physician with extensive latitude for the exercise of initiative and independent judgement.
Standard clinical environment.
Located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
