Hospitalist – Virginia, MN

Essentia Health Virginia Hospital is a 30‑bed Level IV Trauma Center and certified Stroke Ready facility located 60 miles north of Duluth, MN.

Scope of Practice

• Hospitalist‑run ICU with ventilator management required for 24‑48hours.
• Critical Care consults easily accessible.
• Additional subspecialty consults via phone or telehealth 1hour away at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center, a LevelI tertiary care hospital.
• Procedures not required.
• Full laboratory and imaging services, including MRI and CT.
• Inpatient services: General Surgery, ENT, Orthopedic Surgery, Obstetrics/Gynecology.

Staffing Model & Schedule

• 1 Physician + 1 Advanced Practice Provider (APP) per day, 1 dedicated physician nocturnist for night shifts.
• Average team census: 24‑28 patients (includes admissions).
• Typical schedule: 7‑day on, 7‑day off throughout the year; 175 shifts considered full‑time.
• Flexible scheduling.

Requirements

• Board‑Certified/Board‑Eligible in Internal Medicine (BC/BE) or Family Medicine (BC/BE) with strong interest in hospital‑based care.
• Opportunity for mentorship available.

Compensation

Base salary: $368,464 per year. Eligible for bonuses, quality incentives, or production‑based compensation.
