Job summary

Martha's Vineyard Hospital in Oak Bluffs, MA seeks a BC/BE Family Practice physician to diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses, examine patients, and manage preventive care for a diverse community on Martha's Vineyard.

You will prescribe medications, order tests, and coordinate care with nurses and specialists while supervising clinical staff and supporting community health initiatives in a Critical Access setting.

Qualifications

  • BC/BE in Family Practice and at least 5 years of experience.
  • Responsible for Adult/Pedi outpatient and Pedi inpatient call.
  • Willingness to work in a Critical Access environment.
  • Long term care coverage for own patients and rotated for unassigned.

Purpose of Your Job Description

The primary purpose of the MD, Family Practice is to diagnose and treat injuries or illnesses. Physicians examine patients, take medical histories, prescribe medications, and order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests. Also, to counsel patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive healthcare.

Delegation of Authority

You report to the Director of Physician Practices and are delegated the administrative and clinical authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Assess and treat a range of conditions that occur in everyday life.

Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.

Order, perform, and interpret tests and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients’ condition.

Collect, record, and maintain patient information, such as medical history, reports, and examination results.

Monitor patients’ conditions and progress and reevaluate treatments as necessary.

Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.

Advise patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention.

Refer patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.

Coordinate work with nurses, social workers, rehabilitation therapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and other health care providers.

Supervise patient care personnel.

Plan, implement, or administer health programs or standards in hospitals, businesses, or communities for prevention or treatment of injury or illness.

Train residents, medical students, and other health care professionals.

Prepare government or organizational reports which include birth, death, and disease statistics, workforce evaluations, or medical status of individuals.

Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in written or electronic form.

Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

Education Requirements

BC/BE in Family Practice. At least 5 years experience. Responsible for Adult/Pedi outpatient and Pedi inpatient call. Long term care coverage for own patients and rotated for unassigned. Willingness to work in a Critical Access environment.
