Job summary

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) seeks Physician Faculty with expertise in medical education to teach in the Osteopathic Principles and Practices and related courses. Responsibilities include advising medical students, interviewing applicants, and contributing to research and service in the college’s mission.

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree required. Teaching experience in academia with 2–5 years of experience practicing preferred.
• Strong communications skills and computer literacy (MS Office) and accurate data entry are essential.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail are required.
• Flexible to accept other duties needed for clinic needs; able to work cooperatively with others.

Responsibilities

• Teach in Osteopathic Principles and Practices course and History & Physical Examination course.
• Advise medical students and interview applicants.
• Contribute to research and service mission; participate in PBL and simulations as needed.
• Serve on committees and advise students; supervise and coordinate educational tools and readings.

Job Summary

Physician Faculty members are well versed and experienced in all phases of Medicine and have achieved a specific level of expertise. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include teaching in the Osteopathic Principles and Practices course (if a D.O. who uses these skills), advising medical students, interviewing applicants, and contributing to the mission of the college through research and service. The successful candidate will also participate in the History & Physical Examination course and facilitate in the problem based learning (PBL) curriculum.

Characteristic Job Tasks and Responsibilities

• Serve as an instructor in various Clinical Examination courses;
• Serve as a Problem Based Learning Facilitator;
• Serve as instructor in the OPP course (if a D.O. who uses these skills);
• Assist in Simulation Lab supervision on an as needed basis;
• Interview prospective candidates for the College of Medicine (COM);
• Serve on Committees, as assigned and as Advisor to assigned students and at least one club;
• Provide, at minimum, two scholarly activity or research project yearly;
• Preparation of educational tools (A/V, demonstration models, lectures, lesson plans.etc.);
• Preparation of Clinical exercises that parallel real life Clinic protocol and procedure by means of case based models;
• Preparation of demonstrations, lectures, small group discussions, and the selection of suggested and required reading from various sources, and coordinating these educational tools with other faculty members;
• Prepare evaluation tools that will aid in the evaluation of students' work product and help to identify students that are discovered to be weak in various areas;
• Attend "Team" meetings approved by COM that require advancement of your profession;
• Must be able to take direction and receive assignments from the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs;
• Prepare course syllabus in detail, to include, all assignments, readings both for laboratory exercises and discussions (examinations) that will guide the student through the rigorous curriculum;
• Must be available for work during the hours assigned, for student instruction; and
• Accept other duties assigned/needed for the Institution's needs.

Minimum Requirements

• KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must possess required knowledge and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Knowledge of general medical coding and related information in the field;
• Compliance with State and Federal Regulations and Safety Protocols;
• Knowledge of student and patient's privacy (i.e. FERPA, HIPAA.etc.);
• Follow proper OSHA and safety guidelines; Protect equipment (office, facility.etc.);
• Strong communications skills are essential as well as computer literacy (MS Office Suit [i.e. Word, PowerPoint and Excel]) and accurate data entry skills;
• Excellent organizational skills;
• Must be accurate and attentive to detail;
• Must be trained and certified on the Institutional Data System;
• Must have great skills in diagnosis and treatment planning;
• Maintaining an established work schedule;

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience equivalent to: M.D. or D.O. degree required; teaching experience in academia with two to five (2‑5) years' or more of experience practicing preferred.
