The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking an Emergency Medicine physician for the Huntington VA Medical Center in West Virginia.

The role focuses on rapid assessment, stabilization and treatment of diverse acute cases within the Emergency Department as part of a comprehensive Whole Health care model. Responsibilities include prompt evaluation, procedures as needed, and collaboration with the Emergency Medicine team; schedule varies by department needs and supervisor guidance.

Qualifications

• Degree of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from an accredited school.
• Full, unrestricted medical license in the United States.
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.

As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran. This Physician is the Emergency Department within the Medical Service and practices at the independent clinical level of practice.

The Physician has specialized knowledge of practice related to assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of a variety of Emergency Medicine conditions. Major Duties but not limited to: Emergency Medicine physicians assess, evaluate, diagnose and initially treat patients in the Emergency Department with any symptom, illness or condition. Stabilize patients with major illnesses or injuries and assess all patients to determine if additional care is necessary.

Perform or assist in related procedures. Works as a member of the Emergency Medicine team at the Hershel "Woody" Williams campus of the Huntington VA Hospital. There may be other duties as assigned or required. Work Schedule: Hours/days will vary. Your schedule will ultimately be determined by your Supervisor and be based on needs of the Department, Facility, and/or Agency. Compressed tour may be authorized.

Requirements & Education

Education and length of practice are considered through a formal pay-setting process to determine the final compensable salary (Base Pay + Market Pay). Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted.

For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C.

7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
