Job description

Summary

West Palm Beach VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician (Dermatologist) for the Vero Beach Location. The 2‑page Resume requirement does not apply to this occupational series. For more information, refer to Required Documents below.

Qualifications

• Must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements applicable in the announcement.
• Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
• Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements

• United States citizenship (non-citizens only if no qualified citizens can be recruited).
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent in allopathic or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school.
• Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or D.C.
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification, or one of the following alternatives:
  • One year of post‑medical‑school training followed by two years of independent practice.
  • Non‑U.S. residency training followed by at least three years of independent practice in the U.S. with duties related to the position.
• Resident physicians enrolled in accredited programs and meeting the basic requirements may be appointed as “Physician Resident Providers” (PRPs) on an intermittent basis, subject to additional scope of practice limitations and supervision.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Board Certification in Dermatology.

Physical Requirements

• Pass a pre‑employment physical examination per VA Handbook 5019.
• Light to moderate lifting (15–44 lb), carrying (15 lb), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers with both hands, walking up to 2 h, standing up to 2 h, kneeling up to 1 h.
• Vision: near 13–16 in, far 20/20 one eye to 20/40 other eye, depth perception, color discrimination.
• Hearing (use of hearing aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, ability to work closely with others or alone.

Duties

• Provide face‑to‑face and tele‑dermatology care and consultation.
• Perform surgical and non‑surgical dermatology procedures on patients of all ages presenting with skin disorders.
• Offer consultative services for patients referred from other hospital units and outpatient clinics.
• Provide emergency dermatology coverage as assigned.
• Teach residents and students, lead noon conferences, and participate in resident education.
• Monitor quality, safety, and appropriateness of patient care; participate in quality assurance programs and chart reviews.
• Attend monthly medicine service meetings and quarterly medical/dental staff meetings.
• Complete medical records per Medical Staff bylaws and regulations.
• Participate in medical staff committee assignments, quality assurance activities, and special projects.
• Protect protected health information in accordance with the Privacy Act, VA statutes, and VHA policy.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Chief of Medicine or the Dermatology Section.
• Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; additional shifts may be required based on patient needs.
