Job summary

ACEP Now seeks a Critical Care / Pulmonology Physician for a 2–3 week temporary assignment covering a provider on vacation. Schedule includes Mon–Thu 1:00 p.m.–11:00 p.m. and Fri–Sun 5:00 p.m.–7:00 a.m., roughly 66 hours per week with a week off, then another 66-hour week.

The role requires attending duties 24/7, comprehensive evaluations, supervising housestaff, and performing ICU/pulmonary procedures in various units. CPRS documentation is required.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Board-eligible (<4 yrs out of residency) or Board-certified in Critical Care/Pulmonology.
• Active state medical license (any state). Current DEA registration.
• Current BLS and ACLS certification.
• Proficiency with CPRS electronic health record system.

Responsibilities

• Serve as attending for inpatient and outpatient services on a 24-hour basis.
• Perform comprehensive evaluations, including history and physical examinations, and order labs.
• Supervise housestaff and midlevel providers and assist with their patient management.
• Perform specialty procedures including arterial/venous sampling, thoracentesis, line placements, intubation, bronchoscopy, lumbar puncture, and NG/feeding tube insertions.
• Provide services in the Medical Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit.
• Offer consultative services in Emergency Department and other units and pulmonary clinics.
• Maintain physician-to-physician contact calls and arrange referrals with tertiary centers.
• Enter notes and orders into CPRS on the day of visit; document per policy.

Job Summary

Position: Critical Care / Pulmonology Physician Placement: 2–3 week temporary assignment covering a provider on vacation. Hours: Mon–Thu 1:00 p‑11:00 p, Fri–Sun 5:00 p‑7:00 a; approximately 66 hours per working week, followed by a week off, then another 66‑hour week.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as attending for inpatient and outpatient services on a 24‑hour basis.
• Perform comprehensive evaluations, including complete history and physical examinations, and order relevant laboratory studies.
• Supervise housestaff and midlevel providers and assist with their patient management.
• Perform specialty‑specific procedures: arterial/venous blood sampling, thoracentesis, arterial and venous catheter placement, central venous lines/acute dialysis lines/PA catheters, intubation, fiberoptic bronchoscopy, lumbar puncture, joint aspiration, placement of NG/feeding tubes, aspiration of subcutaneous fluid collections, bladder catheterization, and portable ultrasound.
• Provide services in the Medical Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Care Unit.
• Offer consultative services in the Emergency Department, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Progressive Care Unit, General Medicine and Surgical Units, and outpatient Pulmonary Clinics.
• Maintain physician‑to‑physician contact calls and arrange referrals with tertiary care medical centers.
• Enter all notes, diagnostic requests, consultative requests, medication orders, and reports into the computerized patient record system (CPRS) on the day of the visit; document per medical center policies and Joint Commission/HCFA standards.
• Ensure adequate written documentation in case of computer system failure.

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Board‑Eligible (less than four years out of residency) or Board‑Certified in Critical Care/Pulmonology.
• Active state medical license (any state acceptable). Current DEA registration.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Proficiency with computers and the CPRS electronic health record system.

Additional Requirements

CPRS orientation will be provided; however, limited computer proficiency or poor data entry skills will not be compensated for by additional training.
