Job summary

Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA, is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant to join the Cardiothoracic Surgery team. The role requires EVH experience, proficient first assisting, and collaborative teamwork within a state-of-the-art program.

The PA will work in a comprehensive cardiovascular program, performing duties in a modern, highly skilled environment and contributing to innovative surgical care, patient education, and perioperative support.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.
• Experience: Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/department preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current PA license, DEA, and BLS-HCP certification required; ACLS/other life support preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide physician assistant support in cardiothoracic surgery, including endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH) and first assisting.
• Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, APPs, nurses, and staff to deliver high-quality patient care.
• Maintain credentialing, participate in continued professional development, and ensure adherence to safety and quality standards.

What We Require:

• Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.
• Experience: Clinical experience appropriate to specific practice/department preferred.
• Licensure/Certification: Current Physician Assistants license (PA) required. DEA licensure required. AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Advanced life support is preferred and is required for those who may use a defibrillator in their practice.
• Other: Meets credentialing requirements. Qualifies for malpractice insurance and is accepted by Carilion Clinics malpractice insurance carrier. Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers. Maintains open and supportive communications between all department members and other employees, patients and their family members. Commitment to continued professional development.

Compensation Range: $118,788.80 - $190,070.40 Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
