Job summary

Geisinger in Pennsylvania is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide inpatient trauma and surgical care, collaborating with physicians, RNs, and other staff across med-surg floors. The role uses Epic for documentation and supports trauma alerts and consultations.

Qualifications

• Licensed to practice as a Physician Assistant.
• Experience in inpatient and trauma care is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess and establish presumptive diagnoses and implement treatment plans.
• Document comprehensive patient care in the EMR accurately.
• Prescribe and adjust medications within PA scope of practice.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, case management, social workers and other staff.

Job Duties

Position details: Shifts: 13 (12 hour shifts) every 4 weeks. Support staff: Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, RNs (available all hours of operation), Phlebotomy, Radiology Techs. Electronic Health Record: Epic. Trauma Alerts and Consultations: Advanced Practice providers will staff Trauma Alerts and Consultations. Staff will also provide care to admitted Trauma Surgery patients on our med-surg floors.

Other Details

• Assesses and establishes a presumptive diagnosis and implements treatment plans for their patient population.
• Makes accurate and complete entries into the electronic medical record; orders and interprets diagnostic testing and consults as appropriate and prescribes appropriate medical therapy utilizing evidenced based practice.
• Prescribes, adjusts or discontinues medications or therapies as appropriate.
• Evaluates and reports to collaborating physician any circumstances or approaches to medical management or test results that present a significant risk to patient's health or well-being.
• Performs procedures within the scope of practice of the physician assistant license.
• Communicates with collaborative physician, patient, PCP and referring staff through telephone or other means of correspondence.
• Instills confidence in patient acting as their advocate by providing safe, ethical care and health education to the patient and their family in a language that they can understand.
• Interprets and follows policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
